Current national position
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 came into force on 1 May 2026. The official government summary says the national prohibition covers online money games whether based on chance, skill or both, as well as their advertising, promotion, facilitation and related payment processing.
What to check
Read the current Act, rules and enforcement notices. Identify whether money, stakes or redeemable value are involved, and check any decision or registration issued by the Online Gaming Authority of India. An accessible app or website is not legal clearance.
